HMCS Charlottetown is a Halifax-class multi-mission frigate, equipped with modern radar and sensor systems, along with numerous weapon systems for anti-submarine, anti-surface, and air defence operations

This is considered one of the prominent defense foreign affairs activities between Vietnam and Canada in 2026, and it marks a rare occasion for the highest-ranking commander of the Royal Canadian Navy to directly participate in a courtesy visit to Da Nang. The delegation was led by Vice Admiral Angus Topshee – Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy – along with over 240 officers, sailors, and the CH-148 Cyclone helicopter crew.

HMCS Charlottetown is a Halifax-class multi-mission frigate, equipped with modern radar and sensor systems, along with numerous weapon systems for anti-submarine, anti-surface, and air defence operations. The warship has previously served as the command in many of Canada's surface action groups.

During their stay in Da Nang, the Canadian officers and sailors will participate in a series of exchange activities with the 5th Military Region Command, the Naval Region 3 Command, and the leaders of Da Nang City; and will also organize professional exchanges, sports, cultural, and community activities. The delegation is also scheduled to visit some prominent tourist and cultural sites in Da Nang and Hoi An.

According to the Canadian side, the visit demonstrates a commitment to promoting peace, stability, and international cooperation based on international law in the Indo-Pacific region, while also contributing to the increasingly substantive and broader Comprehensive Partnership between Vietnam and Canada.
